Sports Sound Off: A Woman’s Perspective…

I’ve been completely consumed by ESPN/SportsCenter the past few weeks. There is just too much going on right now and lucky for us we should have an exciting summer:

NBA Finals coming down to game 7 and between the Lakers and Celtics (surprise!) I have not been a big fan of the NBA since the strike, when I was a Knicks fan (John Starks days;) This may be the first time I’ve watched the entire playoff series post-strike so I guess the NBA’s strategy to hand-pick the “classic” teams to boost ratings is working. Regardless of ratings, I still hold steady on my one and done playoffs/finals-there are too many games and the majority are completely bogus because there is always another. Butler didn’t have another game to compensate for that missed half-court shot. Hank Baskett didn’t have another game to try to catch that onside kick. I’m just saying…

Sports Sound Off: NBA Finals – Let the Games Begin

David Stern lit up a fatty when Boston came out of the Eastern Conference. There are matchups…& then there are MATCHUPS: Red Sox vs. Yanks, Ali vs. Frazier, Borg vs. McEnroe (tennis you….) that transcend sports (OK a little dramatic but you get the point) & Lakers vs. Celtics is one of those marquee matchups. You wonder why Ron Attest took less money? You wonder why Boston picked up Rasheed Wallace & Marquis Daniels? It is because on this moment. It’s the RING.

Sports Sound Off: From Russia with Love

The New Jersey nets got a new owner last week, Mikhail Prohorov aka Ivan Drako. Dude is drippin SWAG. He is the only man who is putting Hugh Hefner of Playboy fame to shame. Once the $$ starts flowing like Belvedere, there isn’t anything that is impossible. Nets will be in Newark NJ for a couple of years, than they plan to move to the BK.

How about a name change to BK Broilers?

Sports Sound Off: The King is Dead / Long Live the King

King James is clutching his MVP trophy with a thousand yard stare (Vietnam term) thinking Why? Why did we trade for Antwaan Jamison, a proven 20pt 9 rebound guy who got exposed Playoff style. Why did we get the Diesel when he was running on fumes? Shaq will play next year for 21million reasons but it’s sad to WITNESS (Lebron term) him at this stage of his Hall of Fame career. Why did Mike Brown have to be the Head coach? That’s not even an NBA Championship coach’s name. His name will tell you Cleveland had no chance of advancing.

Sports Sound Off: 55-5-5

Brandon Jennings put the NBA on notice with a box score filled w/ STATs. Knick draft choice, Jordan Hill is on the bench, Curry is riding the wood (no homo), Rubio is in Europe, and Blake Griffith is hurt while BJ drops 55pts, 5assists & 5 rebounds. Not bad for a rook.

Any Tereke Evans sightings? I know the Kings are 4-4 so maybe you should check his stats.

Sports Sound Off: The NBA is Here!!!

Sports Sound Off The NBA is Here
The NBA season is here, the Yankees are in the World Series, the NFL is on and poppin’, I doubt there is a better week in sports. Since its upon us, I would like to make some predictions, give you some of my favorite ballers, and just give you some flavor for the week.

Sports Sound Off: Draft Bust Alert!

sebastian-telfair-and-lebron-james
As the new NBA season approaches, there are many players that must use this year to prove to me (and other NBA fans) they deserve to be in the L. Basically, heres some players that are a season away from becoming straight busts and going on in HNITH’s doghouse.

Sports Sound Off: Amazing

WNBA+Finals+Game+4+Phoenix+Mercury+v+Detroit+6_tLBQVEqBtl
Big up to Diane Taurasi & the Phoenix Mercury on winning the WNBA title. She adds this to her UCONN college championship. It’s Amazing that she got a DWI without a public outcry. Granted it’s not a major sport, BUT if this was M. Vick, Kayne West or Chris Brown (granted they all did something stupid), the media coverage would be totally different. “This is what’s wrong w/ Sports. These overpaid pre-Madonna’s”. At least she gets a chance to “right the ship”. We all make mistakes.

Sports Sound Off: David vs. Goliath

Yang vs. Tiger
“He did it! He did it!” was yelled in one house. OH man! was yelled at another. In sports, there can be only one winner. The Ying & the Yang perfectly aligned this past Sunday (8/16-09) as Tiger “Still Hater Proof” Woods was defeated in golf’s’ last Major tournament. Every 1000 years or so David beats Goliath to give the underdog hope. Hope is the last thing a person will give up on.

Vick to Philly was a shocker. At least Vick won’t have the initial pressure of having to lead a team with all of his baggage. Less pressure, working w/ Andy Reid who actually has a creative offensive mind are pluses for MV. Andy Reid’s’ drug head sons +an Ex-con: You got to love it.

Sports Sound Off: I Think… (Playoff Edition)

D_Howard
I Think…

This years’ NBA playoffs have been off the chain

LA Lakers are OK w/ the home court advantage

Cleveland can still come back even after OT loss

Andrew Bynum thinks it’s still the regular season (watch him walk off the court)

N-I-G is lazy or stupid or both.

Sports Sound Off: Denver Best in the West?

86317051GE026_MAVS_NUGGETS
The Denver Nuggets reach the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 1985 as they finished off the Dallas Mavericks 124-110 to close out the series 4-1 in front of their fans. Nuggets jumped out to a 34-27 lead in the first quarter. They kept Dallas staggered on the offensive end of the floor by scoring 69 points in the first half. Dallas rode an emotional high into tonight’s game and knew it would be tough but was unable to handle the various offensive threats from Denver.

Sports Sound Off: Pistons in Deep Do-Do

Doo Doo
The once great team called the Detroit Pistons are in BIG Trouble! Losers of 5 straight, their underbelly is exposed. Finger pointing will begin shortly, along with Rasheed Wallace’s annual blow-up. Sure they can beat the middle rung teams (Heat, Nets) & the door mats (Thunder, Wizards), but the elite teams do not fear Detroit. Even A.I. cutting his braids hasn’t helped.

Sports Sound Off: Cheese on that Steak (Playoff Edition)

dnabb1
Philly has emerged from the ashes like a Phoenix (a bird said to live 5oo years, consume itself by fire, then rise up from the ashes to start another cycle) since the benching of its’ starting QB Donovan McNabb, to come one game away from the Super Bowl.

D-Nabb is playing at a consistent high level. He is not managing the game, dude is playing. His mind is focused (recent birth of twins), and his body is healthy (torn ACL ’07). The combo of mind/body has brought the Cheese Steaks to the brink.

Assante Samuel has been HUGE addition to the D. He is a shut down CB & this allows blitzes and high risk defense from other teammates. Against the Arizona Cardinals, this will be a test with their N.O.S. high octane offense.

Sports Sound Off: Today in Sports

sportssoundoff_crew_game-4

Big up to the Columbus Crew for winning the MLS (Major League Soccer) title game.

The Crew defeated the NY Red Bull 3-1 to win the North American championship.

Soccer in the USA is no way the fanatical, iconic sport that is around the rest of the world. You got folks over in Germany getting buried in a mini version of the real stadium that is next to the soccer field with the team colors on the casket. Talk about Ride or Die.

Sports Sound Off: All Bases Covered

Who did win the Ryder Cup??? I missed it totally. All jokes aside, what’s going on in the sports word?

Tennessee Titans are 5-0 without Vince Young. Does Coach Jeff Fisher her return to him when he comes back from injury? (Unwritten NFL rule is you don’t lose your job to injury or do you stay with the hot hand).
