Sinakilloptimist Review: Shutter Island

I’m not that smart… that’s what I thought after seeing director’s Martin Scorsese & Leonardo DiCaprio (actor who turned in the single greatest combined acting year in history: The Departed & Blood Diamond in 2006) after I saw Shutter Island.

In the opening scene, the musical score was ultra dramatic. Jason (yea that Jason) I thought was going to jump out & kill someone. Scorsese movies always use the N word at some point. Good/Bad, who knows…He’s just getting his kicks. One scene is shot in such a way that you see all of the islands orderlies seating at a meeting & they are all Black. Probably accurate for the 1950’s but it really jumped out. Holocaust flashbacks are used to produce emotional tugs. That’s fine, but most it not all cultures have suffered ten fold.
Painfully slow paced. Patience is great until it breaks you. Keep waiting. Keep waiting for the pay off. The movie was all over the map. It’s up, it’s down. Believe or not believe. It’s you thinking you’re the Joker when the jokes on you. Just know that your mind is something you should not play with. Pray you never lose it. It’s terrible to lose control. Believe me.

Recommendation: If you want more confusion in your life, go for it. If you see it, go “medicated”. Maybe a second viewing will bring clarity, but like I said, I’m not that smart.
