H.N.I.T.H. Review: Jay-Z – Blueprint III

4_Answer_The_Call_Benefit_Jay_Z

“How am I a legend?/ I just got 10 number 1 albums/ Maybe now 11”

The G.O.A.T of hip hop makes another solid release with the 3rd series of The Blueprint. It serves as an example to all MCs in the game, I mean what more can he say, he is the blueprint. This album is great for a lot of reasons. 1. Jay’s Statements 2. Jay’s Lyrics 3. Good Producing & Collaborations 4. The Bangers 5. Song Placement, etc. I can make at least 20.

This album has been growing buzz since the summer of 08, since Jay-Z put out song “Jockin’ Jay-z”. (That was a while ago, right?) He increased buzz with appearances on Swagger Like Us, amongst others. It goes easy to say that We, the fans, have been waiting for this for a while.

Jay-Z doesn’t disappoint.

Anyone saying that this album is wack is just stuck in the underground. They’ll say, “Its too commercial”, “too soft”, “Too cluby”, etc. No, my friend. Soulja Boi Tellem is commercial and cluby. This is the blueprint.

The album begins by grabbing your attention with “What We Talkin Bout” and is a semi diss to those in his path, Dame, Jim, Game, Jazz. “Applause” is the new “Roc Boys” tuxedo, tapered suit, raise your glass anthem. Then “D.O.A”, instant classic. Then “Run This Town”, instant classic. Then the gem “Empire State”, instant classic. The first 3 tracks of Jay-Z’s lyrics give the album enough to allow 3 straight guest appearances of Kanye, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Jeezy, and still lets you know this is Jay-Z, Blueprint, yea.

“On to the Next one” aint for the clubs. It just crack. So is “Off That”(Drake verse on Remix plz HipHop Gods). “Star is Born” is a classic, and new artist J.Cole holds his own on track with 23(Jordan or James). “Already home” is a classic in my book, and is a good change of pace song. It has great beat, lyrics, and hook frm Cudi

Haters doesn’t do it for me though, (too much Yeezy influence, not enough 23), and neither does Reminder. Those two tracks may prevent this album from getting a 5 in my book. “So Ambitious” picks up where already home left off. “Forever Young” is a good outro.

“I don’t run Rap no more, I run the map”

“I’m a multimillionaire, so how is I’m still the hardest nigga here?” –Nuff said Jay.

  1. Powerful posting.

A great one in the making.

I kept thinking this dude should hang it up and stop rapping.

Then he comes with the BP 3. (Pause)

    Agree with you on most.

    I like Haters though.

I skip A Star is Born & Young Forever.

Empire State should have been the NYC summer anthem.

Did you see the 9/11 concert?

    Man…

I shouldn’t have missed that one

    PROPS!

  5. Damn this album gets better and better.

Hot summer night, Downtown LA , BP3 turned up, riding around.

Sets such a mood makes me miss NYC

You can’t front on this album at all.

I might go out on a limb and say if you dont like this album you are not a fan of Hip-Hop.

New sound/flow with out going to far.

    Bangers and Stadium anthems.

Joint is moving closer and closer to classic IMO.

Oh yeah and it was number one.
