Sports Sounds Off: US Open Update

Williams’ sisters, Serena and Venus put on a show Weds. Night (9/03/08) in the quarter- finals of this years’ last Glam Slam event. Serena won 7-6 7-6. It was a shame that the match-up was not the finals. Causal tennis fans missed out on a great match. Common was in the stands rooting for wifey.

The US Open always gets lost in the sauce of the NFL kickoff weekend. If I was a USTA official, I would move entire tournament up one week. The die-hard fans will turn out regardless, but the causal fans would get involved plus you would get more coverage from media outlets (PROPS, ESPN). Tennis wouldn’t be the 7-8 story on Sunday/Monday Sportscenter.
